The Dance
This 12" x 9" palette knife oil painting captures the icy beauty of a winter lake. The technique used in this piece displays how smooth and detailed palette knife painting can be, while texture is used purposefully to create raised areas in the landscape where appropriate.

I do not like winter. So every year, when I get the "winter blues" I challenge myself to paint the beauty of the season. Winter is unequivocally beautiful - full of color. Snow and ice provide perfect reflective surfaces, emitting the hues and tones of everything around them. Sunrises and sunsets flaunt their vivid pinks, oranges and reds, while creating crisp deep blue and violet perpendicular shadows as their rays blaze through forest trees. Cerulean skies are reflected in icy water. Sometimes the only color to be found in a winter landscape, is the blushing sky at dusk and dawn, but it is so beautiful.
