Beyond the Clouds

This is a 12" x 9" palette knife oil painting of Seneca Lake, in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. Growing up on this lake has offered lifelong inspiration for my artistic endeavors. Summer skies in the Finger Lakes are stunningly beautiful. Audacious hues reflected in pristine mirrors. Every day palette is different and the clouds the hues, which draws your thoughts to what lies beyond them. Glistening lights from lakeside dwellers echo like stars across the water in the setting sun. There’s nothing like summer in lake country.

The use of an impasto technique with palette knives creates dynamic texture that heightens depth and draws viewers to the painted space. Vibrant color is maintained through this technique as color is layered and never muddies.
